Business Owner Gives Staff Bonuses with One Caveat – Eat, Shop Local

It’s easy to get caught up in all the bad news and COVID-19 stories flooding your news feed. But every once in a while, you find a highlight that brings some joy.

While there are many ways to give back or help support their community, Buffalo, N.Y.-based business owner John Bair decided he’d do something to help both his area’s local businesses as well as his staff of 13.

Bair, who owns Milestone Consulting, a settlement planning and management company, licensed in all 50 states, notified his workers that they would all be receiving a $500 bonus. However, this extra income would come with a catch.

Each employee is required to use this extra $500 to order takeout or delivery from local restaurants and small businesses in their area — and of course, leave a generous tip for the industry workers who might just be taking one of the hardest hits during this time.

Some of Bair’s employees work remote, especially while non-essential travel is banned, and social distancing is being enforced. Therefore, each employee is using the bonus to stimulate their local economies in not just Buffalo, but also Houston and Boston.

People around the nation are giving back, and we want to make an effort to bring these positive news stories to the forefront during these trying times. So, stay safe, help when you can, and pass on the generosity of these inspiring local business owners.
